Bill Zehfuss
Bill Zehfuss (trombone) is the Principal Trombone of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as soloist for the CSO in works by Creston, David, Martin, and Tomasi. In 2006 Bill received a one-year appointment as Principal Trombone of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. Recent professional engagements include performances with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Opera, and the Columbus (GA) Symphony Orchestra.

In 2000, Bill gave the world premiere performance of Eric Ewazen’s Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. He was then chosen to present the concerto with the U.S. Army Orchestra at the 2003 Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington DC.

Bill has spent the past fifteen summers in the cool, green mountains of North Carolina as Artist-Faculty Member at Brevard Music Center. He spends his free time mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and hiking among the trails and waterfalls of Pisgah National Forest.

A graduate of Northwestern University, Bill is a faculty member and trombone instructor at the College of Charleston.

Tom Joyce
Tom Joyce (bass trombone) is in his twelfth season as bass trombonist of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. Tom graduated the University of Puget Sound (Tacoma, WA) summa cum laude in 1991 with degrees in Mathematics/Physics and Music and then pursued performance studies at the New England Conservatory and Boston University. Tom is a member of Burning River Brass, a professional twelve-piece brass ensemble based in Cleveland; he can be heard on that ensemble’s four CD’s on the Dorian label. Tom spent the summer of 2005 as a member of the orchestra for Seattle Opera’s production of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen.”

Kate Jenkins
ITW Host: Kate Jenkins is adjunct professor of trombone and euphonium at Charleston Southern University. She serves as principal trombone of the Augusta Opera and Augusta Choral Society, and performs regularly with the Charleston Symphony, Hilton Head Orchestra, Augusta Symphony and the South Carolina Philharmonic. She has toured the United States and Europe with the King’s Brass, Eurobrass and the Crescent Brass. A native of Essex Junction, Vermont, Kate earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College, and her Master of Music degree from the University of Georgia, where she studied trombone with Hal Reynolds and Philip Jameson. She currently lives in Charleston with her husband Todd.
